Dozens of lawmakers, led by Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, are pushing to create the select committee in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
The committee would have subpoena power to probe “the money, influence, and power behind the radical left’s assault on America and the rule of law,” the Republicans’ letter says, creating the possibility of criminal penalties if individuals refuse to testify and provide information. This could allow lawmakers to put the spotlight on powerful organizations suspected of driving violent leftist radicalism in recent years,
“If everybody in Seattle’s Antifa groups disappeared this afternoon or was, you know, locked up into jail this afternoon, there would be more foot soldiers [coming] to Seattle,”
