The Creed of “Love”

In the biblical accounts we read of how Jesus was arrested with Judas to point him out to the “crowd” sent to capture him. But there is something that doesn’t really stand well to the  whole story.

First of all, in Luke 22:36, we read that Jesus urged his disciples to arm themselves. We read that the disciples were armed with swords ready to use them in any occasion as they actually did by cutting off the ear of the high priest’s servant.

Luke 22:36 “Now, however,” He told them, “the one with a purse should take it, and likewise a bag; and the one without a sword should sell his cloak and buy one. 37For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about Me is reaching its fulfillment.” 38So they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” “That is enough,” He answered.

Further on we read at the verses 47,… While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.

In Luke 19:27, we read of another “unfit” message. “And these enemies of mine who were unwilling for me to rule over them, bring them here and slay them in front of me.’” 28After Jesus had said this, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem”

Do all these respond to the “turn the other cheek”, “Love your enemy”, “love each other”, or “Christianity is the creed of love”? Or do all these refer only to “Christians of the same heresy”?

In Mark 14, we read of the “strange” Jesus’ reproach to his aggressors…..

48 “Am I leading a rebellion,” said Jesus, “that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.” 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled.

“Then everyone deserted him and fled”. Very loyal apostles indeed! Don’t you think so? Especially when they were ready to die for him as we read in the text of the “supper”.

Isn’t then absurd the Judas’ supposed betrayal with the kiss since everybody knew who Jesus was and the kiss as a sign of recognition was unnecessary? Or is it another myth, like so many other myths in the Bible, since “The Gospel of Judas” that was recently found, proved that the supposed betrayal is nothing but a myth?

Was he a traitor after all? Unless we accept the possibility that Judas wrote it before he hanged himself (sic!), which author would ever attribute to a filthy traitor a Gospel?
