A Georgia mother says she endured a “nightmare” after her pregnant daughter, Adriana Smith, was declared brain dead but kept on life support under state law. Smith was nine weeks pregnant when she was hospitalized with blood clots and declared brain dead on Feb. 19. Doctors told the family they had no choice but to maintain life support to preserve the fetus. After 16 weeks, Smith underwent an emergency C-section at 26 weeks. Her son, Chance, was born premature and remains in the NICU with serious complications. Smith was taken off life support days later.
