There are many versions of a ‘damned’ afterlife (i.e., you failed to live up to the standards of your faith):
- Some say it is utter annihilation, the cessation of existence;
- Others say it is eternal separation from God, gods, or whatever, with no possibility of redemption;
- More traditional views posit an actual realm where the souls of the damned are tortured for all eternity, either physically or spiritually, or both;
- Some religions posit rebirth as a chance to “try again”;
- Still others suggest the possibility of “postmortem salvation” whereby the recently dead can be saved from the former consequences through true repentance.
For those who believe in an afterlife:
- Which do you believe, and why?
- It is exegesis or eisegesis?
- Is there an option I’ve missed?
- Why should anyone believe your version of the afterlife over any other version?
