Reports: 1,500 Army paratroopers on standby for possible Minnesota deployment

They’ll be deployed if President Trump invokes the Insurrection Act.

ABC News and the Washington Post are reporting that approximately 1,500 active-duty Army paratroopers have been put on standby for a possible deployment to Minnesota.

It’s been 11 days since a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in south Minneapolis, leading to civil unrest and anti-ICE protests amid the Trump administration’s Operation Metro Surge, which is designed to find and deport illegal immigrants.

The Army paratroopers, known as the “Arctic Angels,” are from the 11th Airborne Division that is based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.
