ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Joint Armed Services Committee is reaching out to the 11th Airborne Division to get clarification on reports of sending 1,500 troops to Minnesota.
The Pentagon has ordered about 1,500 active duty soldiers to be ready in case of a possible deployment to Minnesota, where federal authorities have been conducting a massive immigration enforcement operation, two defense officials said Sunday.
Alaska’s News Source reached out to the 11th Airborne Division for comment but had not received one at the time of publishing.
Committee Co-Chair Sen. Scott Kawaski, D-Fairbanks, confirmed to Alaska’s News Source that the committee is currently drafting a letter to the 11th Airborne Commanding General, Brig. Gen. John Cogbill, asking him to come to Juneau to address the issue of deploying to another state.
