Legendary GOP operative Karl Rove warned on Fox News that Texans are turning against Republicans as Hispanic support for President Donald Trump declines sharply.
Appearing Saturday on The Journal Editorial Report, Rove said Trump’s immigration numbers had begun falling even before last week’s Minneapolis incident involving an ICE shooting. He argued that Americans are often forgiving of undocumented immigrants who obey the law and contribute economically, and said Trump missed an opportunity by not visiting south Texas to highlight border enforcement successes.
Rove said aggressive ICE tactics are especially concerning to Hispanic voters, who were a key GOP constituency in 2024. Their shift helped Republicans retain Congress, but he warned that support is now eroding in Texas, despite early approval of border security efforts that eased pressure on local hospitals, charities, and public safety systems.
