The fact that the pagans buried the idols of their gods in the ground, mourned them and then celebrated triumphantly for their resurrection was foolish for Christians, while they considered their own Jesus’ Passions and Resurrection as “holy”!
Isaiah laments and accuses the pagans of their idols that they kneel and worship and kiss “they have mouths but do not speak, (Psalm 115) eyes but do not see, ears but do not hear, noses but do not smell”, while paradoxically, the Israelites held the “holy prostitution”, venerating the sun and his chariot in the very temple of Solomon, together with Asherah! Don’t they also use statues of their saints, angels and gods in their churches?
What difference do they actually make? They accused the heathens of making images of their gods based on prostitutes, such as Praxiteles’ Venus of Cnidus from his mistress Phryne. But weren’t Madonnas and images of saints created in the same way, or did the Holy Spirit come and give them their photographs? There are hundreds of different faces of Madonna, of Jesus and of the same saints in the world.
But what about the icons, the shrines with the bones of the saints, the amulets, the crosses, the supposedly holy water that they sell in bottles, the various relics, the Jesus’ seven foreskins, or human sanctified fingers or hands, scalps and other objects? And don’t dare argue that they represent “spiritually” the saints and not the objects themselves, because I can equally argue the same for the heathens. Shall I remind you of your iconoclasm that caused havoc throughout Europe for many centuries?
Didn’t Fra Philippo Lippi equally and repeatedly paint the nun Lucrezia Butti, whom he abducted and made his wife in 1456 along with their child, as Mary with the little Jesus (see the picture above)? Didn’t Dürer immortalize the concubines of Cardinal Albrecht II (1514, 1545) Kaethe Stolzenfels and Ernestine Mechandel as Lot’s daughters, Lucas Cranach Ernestine as Saint Ursula, Greenwald Kaethe as Saint Catherine at the secret wedding?
Didn’t “El Greco” use lunatics’ faces as saints’ on his paintings? Don’t the Christian depict their Jesus as a Nordic deity with blond curled hair, blue eyes and dressed as a Greek god, because they ashamed of depicting him as a Jew? Aren’t all your churches full of pagan symbols and your scriptures thrive of pagan rites, hymns, supplications and borrowed pagan deities?
Or, are their deities of “Devil’s origin, while yours are “godsend”?
