Attorney General Bondi Demands Minnesota Voter Rolls, Policy Changes After Fatal Border Patrol Shooting

Hours after a U.S. Border Patrol agent fatally shot a Minneapolis man on Saturday, Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz demanding sweeping changes to state policies, including access to voter registration records, as a condition for restoring “the rule of law” in the state.

The letter ties the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement operations to demands that Minnesota surrender voter rolls to the Department of Justice, share Medicaid and food assistance program data with federal authorities, and repeal sanctuary policies that limit cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The letter followed the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care unit nurse who worked with veterans at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, by federal agents on Saturday morning.
