A document from the Southern District of New York Police announcing Jeffrey Epstein’s death has been going viral on social media, after it was included in the newly released Justice Department files. The reason is that it carries a date that appears to precede the moment Epstein was officially found dead inside his prison cell, prompting a whirlwind of speculation.
The federal statement was dated Friday, August 9, 2019, and clearly says that Epstein had been found unresponsive and pronounced dead by this date.
However, prison records as well as official accounts show Epstein was not found dead until the morning of August 10, 2019, when he was discovered by a corrections officer delivering breakfast to him.
