Rep. Ilhan Omar accused of anti-Semitism before CAIR gala speech

A Saturday tweet by the controversial Minnesota congresswoman — referencing possible presidential contender Michael Bloomberg and philanthropist Leon G. Cooperman — has left critics crying “dog-whistle.”

The questionable tweet came in response to a CNBC article revealing that Cooperman would be supporting Bloomberg in his 2020 presidential bid.

“I wonder why,” Omar said, adding a suspicious “hmmm” emoji.

Bloomberg and Cooperman are both billionaires — and both Jewish.

The message came just hours before Omar was to address the Council of American Islamic Relations in Washington, DC, for their annual gala.

That’s the same host organization she spoke before in March, when she was accused of downplaying the 9/11 attacks as “some people did something.” She is sharing the stage with Bernie Sanders surrogate Linda Sarsour.

Omar immediately took flak online Saturday, with a broad array of critics saying the tweet was veiled anti-Semitism and a wink to followers — some of whom made it known in the comments section that they got the message.

“I suppose you think it’s all about the Benjamins? We get your insinuation. True to form,” countered Michael Dickson, executive director of the pro-Israel group StandWithUs.

“Is it “all about the (((Benjamin’$)))”?” added the always-feisty former Brooklyn assemblyman Dov Hikind.

Even tennis legend Martina Navratilova clapped back,

“This is a wrong thing to say Congresswoman,” she said. “Generalizing is wrong no matter which “group” of people one talks about. It’s about assigning labels, and I hate that.”

It’s far from the first time Omar has faced wrath for tweets over Jewish/Israel issues. In an infamous 2012 post she claimed that “Israel has hypnotized the world,” during the height of a conflict with Gaza. In March Former Ku Klux Klan boss David Duke has called her “the most important member of the U.S. Congress.”

A rep for Omar’s office, Jeremy Slevin, had this response when The Post asked for guidance on what the congresswoman’s tweet meant:

“Much like the far-right demagogue who owns this tabloid, they’re both billionaires.”

The question for discussion:

Given hypnosis is not Israeli policy, Israel does not control American politicians with the Benjamins, nether Jews nor Israelis ask others to pledge “allegiance” to Israel, and perhaps even David Duke’s support for Omar, why should Omar be given the doubt regarding this latest comment?
