In one thread today I found the term ‘religion’ being used in a derogatory manner, three different ways:
-Politics is a religion
-Atheism is a religion
-Leftism is a religion
Of course none of those things comes close to fitting the definition of the word ‘religion’, and that seems to be the point these sophomoric ‘put-downs’. ‘You’re so interested in topic ‘X’ that you resemble a person of faith.’ OUCH, that burns. Especially coming from…a person of faith.
religion – the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
Question: Is it hypocritical for religionists to use the term ‘religion’ as a derogatory?
