Fans and players have scrambled for cover at a professional baseball game in Washington after a shooting outside Nationals Park caused echoes of gunfire inside the stadium.
The game between the San Diego Padres and the Washington Nationals was suspended in the sixth inning after the gunfire was heard.
Videos of the incident shared on social media showed some fans crowding into the third-base dugout.
It was not clear initially if the shooting was inside the complex.
The shooting, an exchange of gunfire between people in two cars, left three people injured, according to Ashan Benedict, the Metropolitan Police Department’s executive assistant police chief.
One of the people who was shot was a woman who was attending the game.
She was struck while she was outside the stadium, he said. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
