Mayra Flores shocked the world on Tuesday, winning a special election in the second biggest Hispanic district in the country. She was the first Republican to do so in over 150 years. It was a Hispanic district, as opposed to a LatinX district. Those only seem to be in Brooklyn, Chicago, and San Francisco. It’s the point/warning Van Jones tries to make to two shocked CNN hosts
Jones pointed out how Democrats appeal to no one but the really well-to-do, and the really poor. The people who are well-to-do are the biggest problem because they run things: “Those people talk funny. Latinx? I’ve never met a Latinx. I’ve never met a BIPOC. I’ve never met all this weird stuff that these highly-educated people say, it’s bizarre. Nobody talks that way at the barber shop, the nail salon, the grocery store, the community center — but that’s how we talk now, so that’s weird.”
These are the people who would view Van Jones as a BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of color) instead of a black man, or even just a man or an American. I’m not sure if Flores would be a BIPOC or a Latinx.
Jones also pointed out the problem when it comes to the really poor, how they really over-promise with things like reparations. Everything Democrats stand for does nothing but drive away working-class voters.
