Intoxicated Landover driver chokes K-9 upon traffic stop in Fauquier Co.: Police

FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A Landover, Maryland man was arrested on multiple charges on Saturday, including harming a police K-9.

Fauquier County, Virginia patrol officers stopped the driver in Bealeton at around 5:30 p.m., according to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a lookout for a potential intoxicated driver with a license plate that matched a previous carjacking in Stafford County, the news release said.

Kevin Spriggs, 39, was stopped at Marsh Road and Station Drive in Bealeton and refused to exit the car despite multiple verbal commands from officers, the statement said. A law enforcement animal, K-9 Bane was then deployed.

Spriggs reportedly continued to resist arrest and began to choke the dog. He was then arrested and transported to Fauquier Hospital for treatment. Police said the K-9 is okay.
