Mississippi State University football coach Mike Leach was known for the Air Raid on the field and his colorful personality off the field.
It has led to legendary quotes over his coaching career. A major college football coach gets a lot of time in front of the media, and few have utilized it like Leach did in more than two decades.
Leach, 61, was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson after suffering a heart attack at his home on Sunday, sources told the Jackson Clarion Ledger, part of the USA TODAY Network, on Monday.
Leach died Monday night, the university announced in a statement. His family in the statement called him “a giving and attentive husband, father and grandfather,”
“He was able to participate in organ donation at UMMC as a final act of charity. We are supported and uplifted by the outpouring of love and prayers from family, friends, Mississippi State University, the hospital staff, and football fans around the world.”
