School employee: Gender identity talk with fifth graders had ‘no place or relevance’

A concerned mother is speaking out after she says her 10-year-old daughter came home confused and upset over a discussion with a middle school librarian, and we’re learning that a district administrator admitted the topics weren’t age appropriate.

Christina Sangiacomo says her 10-year-old daughter, a North Colonie Central School District student headed to Shaker Middle School in the fall, was told by a librarian some books had content including “girls kissing girls” and “boys kissing boys.”

She also says one of the librarians, among other things, asked the kids what their preferred pronouns were, because she didn’t want to “misgender” them.

Sangiacomo said her daughter didn’t know what that meant, so she asked her mom about it when she got home that day.

She says a handful of other kids were also confused.
