Latest NYS test scores are ‘meaningless,’ expert says

For several years now, the scores have come with disclaimer from the state Education Department (NYSED) to not directly compare them to other years.

Previously, that was because of the pandemic. This time, it’s because of a change in scoring criteria.

This school years marks the first for a new NYSED definition of what’s “proficient” for grades 3-8, allowing for lower scores to clear the bar.
