Earlier today, I saw a comment from a creationist on this site about the origin of earthquakes. According to them, they were a result of the Flood God sent affecting Earth’s tectonic plates. That’s certainly a… interesting view, but then I noticed a problem with it. Specifically, we have evidence for groundquakes on celestial bodies other than Earth.
Moonquakes were first detected using scientific devices left behind by the Apollo missions. Last year, an Indian robotic lander also detected a potential moonquake. Marsquakes have been recorded by probes sent there over the decades, with one in 2022 reaching nearly 5 on the magnitude scale. Though some of these quakes were caused by meteor strikes, many others were caused by tectonic activity unique to each body. Now, let’s get to the discussion.
If there is no known life to have ever existed on the Moon or Mars, why do quakes occur on them? Did Adam and Eve’s sin extend all the way out into space?
