There is no evidence that ballot drop boxes have been installed along the U.S. border with Mexico, as suggested by social media posts sharing an edited photograph from a satirical website.
The fabricated image shows ballot drop boxes with “vote here” and “official ballot drop box” written on them in English and Spanish lined up against a wall resembling fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The image was shared, opens new tab on social media platform X and Facebook with the text “Ballot Drop Boxes installed along Border Wall.” Although some social media posts with the image were labeled as satire, responses included comments such as, “Why is this being allowed!!??”
However, the image originally appeared with an article published on Feb. 29, 2024, opens new tab, on the Babylon Bee website.
The Babylon Bee calls itself, opens new tab “the world’s best satire site.” The bio for the outlet’s official X account, opens new tab also states: “Fake news you can trust.”
