The long, lonely walk home of the dysfunctional Jesus Family!
Well, if the Bible’s the norm for all the biblical personages, then we are sure that Jesus was born into a dysfunctional family. His parents for a start were an odd couple, with his mother being at least three score and ten years younger than his father, if we are to believe written evidence. His mother could have passed as his sister. Mary could not have been less than 12-1/2 years old when she was betrothed, (
unless her parents or guardian approved a marriage before her twelfth birthday) and probably no more than 13 years of age when she gave birth to Jesus. The two sources, Pagan, and Jewish, state that Mary was thrown out of the house by her betrothed for adultery. However, Christian sources gloss over this fact, and state that Joseph the husband had a dream that the
holy ghost had impregnated Mary, and Joseph was to take Mary back into his home.
Matthew 1:18-21 NIV.
However, the above Pagan and Jewish sources, state that Mary’s paramour was not the holy Ghost, but a young Roman soldier, by the name (variant spellings) Pantera, Panthera, or Pandira. We can find the Pantera information in any of the listed below.
Contra Celsum 1.69.
Talmud Shabbat 104b.
Babylonian Sanhedrin 67a.
Avoda Zara 17a.
Jerusalem Shabbath 14d, and many more sources.
We also must not forget the absent-minded parents we read in the biblical accounts when Jesus was aged 12. The story goes that Joseph and Mary left 12-year-old son Jesus behind in Jerusalem—what sort of family does not check that their child is with them at all times—a dysfunctional one? (
Luke 2:41-46).(
But this story is just as mind-boggling, as the incestuous story of Adam and Eve, as told in the Book of Genesis.)We are told that Mary and Joseph left the group on their way back to Nazareth, from the Jerusalem passover, a day later to return to Jerusalem when they found Jesus was missing. After three days search, they found Jesus in the Temple. We are to believe the ending was a happy story! But, here is the thing! If we are to believe an apocrypha gospel and Roman Catholic text. Which states, that Joseph died age 110 years old (other source has Joseph 111 years old) when he died before Jesus took up his ministry. We know that Jesus started his
ministry age 30.
What was the age of Joseph when Jesus was twelve? If we use Jesus age of thirty as the start age of Jesus’ ministry, (30-12 = 18) we are left with an 18-year age difference. If we halve the figure 18 (18/2 = 9), we have a hypothesis age of 21 for Jesus when Joseph died (for ease of clarity). This would make Joseph 89 years of age when he and his child bride went back to Jerusalem to look for young Jesus. If the hypothesis figure was changed to make Jesus younger at his earthly father’s death, it would make Joseph older at the Jerusalem passover, etc. Either way, a man in his 90s would find it impossible to walk the day’s walk back to Jerusalem, then search the city for three days, and then the long walk home alone to Nazareth. A journey described in the New Testament that was fraught with danger, from highway robbers, and navigating through Samaritan lands, to their Nazareth home among the Gentiles of Galilee.
