A Response to “Fiery Religious Movements on the Left”

Yesterday, John Keefe published a Religion OP entitled “Fiery Religious Movements on the Left.” I would like to quote the first line here:

A common ideology on the left is the rejection of God and religion.

At the start of each Congress, the Pew Research Center takes a survey of all members, new and old, about their religious beliefs. The following graph shows the results for the current Congress divided by party. Blue represents Democrats and red represents Republicans.

According to the survey, 201 Democrats in both Houses belong to a Christian denomination, be it Protestant, Catholic, or Orthodox. The largest religion after Christianity is Judaism, with 31 Democrats belonging to that faith. I will be providing the full study in the article URL.

If the left “rejects God and religion”, why are over 200 Democrats practicing members of numerous and different religious belief systems?
