While scrolling through Twitter this morning, I saw a rather surprising headline. Before we get into it, I’d like to give everyone a refresher on what’s in the God Bless The USA Bible. In addition to using the King James Version, it also has, and I quote:
- “Handwritten chorus to “God Bless The USA” by Lee Greenwood
- The US Constitution
- The Bill of Rights
- The Declaration of Independence
- The Pledge of Allegiance“
One would think that a Bible that contains this country’s foundational documents would and should be printed in America. This is where the headline in question comes in: “Trump has long blasted China’s trade practices. His ‘God Bless the USA’ Bibles were printed there”
According to the AP’s article, the Bibles in question were printed in China earlier this year before being shipped to the US for an amount far lower than their $60 purchase price.
What do you think? Is it hypocritical to have a Bible that celebrates America be printed in another country, specifically one that competes with and has taken manufacturing jobs away from us?
