Let’s break down the footage of the former Georgetown player who slashed a cop’s head before being shot dead

Terrifying, horrific footage out of Fairfax, Va.:

[Warning: Graphic Violence]

The harrowing incident occurred on Sept. 16 after Officer Peter Liu, a 14-year veteran of the force, was called to conduct a welfare check at the location:

The body camera video shows the officer knocking at her apartment door. The woman opens it and quickly closes the door, Uliano reported.

The second time the officer knocks, Wilson opens the door and immediately begins slashing at the officer with a knife, striking him in the head.

He orders her to stop, but she continues walking toward him, backing him up to the end of a short, dead-end hallway, where the officer eventually opened fire. Wilson can be seen charging at the officer with the knife before he fires three shots to stop the attack.

The attacker, 33-year-old Sydney Wilson, “was transported to a hospital where she later died.”

Here’s slightly longer footage of the incident, including the arrival of emergency responders:

The footage shows Officer Liu suffering from a significant head wound:

One emergency responder, meanwhile, immediately attempted to provide lifesaving aid to Wilson:

It definitely appears that Wilson was in the grip of some sort of mental episode. Full bodycam footage depicts her behaving bizarrely prior to the incident:

Liu says, ‘Hi ma’am, I’m Officer Liu.’ Wilson, dressed in a white robe, looks at him, whispers ‘hi’ twice, and then closes the door.

Liu knocks three more times before saying, ‘Miss Wilson, can you talk to me real quick?’

She was previously a basketball player at Georgetown; a few days after the shooting last month, the women’s basketball team posted a tribute to her on its X page:

The team posted the tribute before the bodycam footage was released. The news initially led to outcry from BLM and other leftwing groups that said this was an example of police brutality against black Americans.

Aside from showing that the shooting was obviously completely justified, the video also provides important context for police shootings: Nearly 10 seconds pass between the first shot being fired and when Wilson finally collapses.
