I saw this part of a comment earlier today and it goes as follows:
“Actual scholars have tried for centuries to blow some kind of hole in it, to disprove it in some manner–only to fail miserably in the fool’s errand. You claim the ability to impugn the Bible–I’m saying, knock yourself out. Let’s hear it, if you got the ‘goods’.”
Challenge accepted. Let’s use Noah’s Ark as an example. According to the Ark Encounter website, the Ark was approximately 510 feet long or about the same length as the Navy’s Arleigh Burke class destroyer. Next, I’ll be quoting Genesis 6:19-21-
“And of every living thing, of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.Of the birds according to their kinds and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground according to its kind, two of every kind shall come in to you, to keep them alive. Also take with you every kind of food that is eaten, and store it up, and it shall serve as food for you and for them.”
So, then. On a 510 foot wooden boat, Noah would have needed space for:
- Breeding pairs for the estimated 6.5 million species of land animals on Earth which, back then, would have been a higher number.
- Enough food and water to keep these pairs alive for at least 150 days.
- Berths large enough to keep each pair protected and comfortable.
- Living quarters for Noah and his family.
- And some method to get rid of the waste generated daily by these breeding pairs.
Now we come to the koala problem. As has been said in the past, koalas are only found in Australia, their diet largely consists of eucalyptus leaves, and they’re asleep between 18 and 22 hours per day. In order to make to the Ark, they would have had to cross thousands of miles of terrain that was completely barren of the food they needed to survive. That issue extends to a large portion of the animals from other continents, many of which are native to one specific area that has a constant climate year around. Additionally, there would also be the problem that many of them would be unable to swim if crossing the seas was the only way to reach the Ark from the continents they inhabited. One can only imagine what would happen if tropical species endemic to the Indonesian archipelago had to move through the Himalayas.
What do you think? Is the Flood narrative shipshape or do facts sink it?
