Trump’s construction of a wall on the border with Mexico was always mocked and rejected in the USA’s neighboring country – but now Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced a surprising turnaround: To protect against Donald Trump, the Mexican government now wants to complete the construction on its own as quickly as possible. Construction work has already begun. “The threat from the north is real,” said Sheinbaum on Mexican television. “On the one hand, the protective wall is intended to offer military protection. You know how newly established dictatorships often treat their neighboring countries.” In addition, the wall will also protect Mexico from refugee movements from the USA, which economists expect to begin once Trump has strangled the economy and famine and poverty spread in the states. “So from the day after tomorrow,” said Sheinbaum. “We must therefore not lose any time.” The cost of completing the structure, which is about 3,185 kilometers long, is estimated at around 21.6 billion euros and is to be financed from an emergency budget of the Mexican government. US President Donald Trump was pleased with the announcement: “Look! I always said that we would have a wall when I was president and that Mexico would pay for it.”
