For a long time, they were considered environmentally friendly electric cars, but now an analysis of image and video data shows that, contrary to the manufacturer’s statements, Teslas are apparently combustion engines that release large amounts of environmentally harmful gases and pollutants.
“The images currently reaching us from the USA are clear,” explains mobility expert Jan-Philipp Kaulbach.
“What’s fascinating, if anything, is that combustion and the resulting smoke development in Teslas usually don’t occur while driving, but rather when parked.”
According to initial estimates, a single Tesla emits far more pollutants within just 30 minutes of initiating the combustion process than even a large pickup truck does in a year.
This isn’t sustainable. In light of these new findings, transport ministries and authorities around the world are considering withdrawing tax benefits or subsidies for Tesla vehicles that they grant to environmentally friendly electric vehicles. Tesla shares have since plummeted by another 43 percent.
