Freedom of Religion vs. Coronavirus

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

We’re all well aware of the 1st Amendment’s protections. However, they’ve recently come into conflict with the response to the coronavirus. In Louisiana, a pastor and his congregation have continued to meet in the hundreds despite state law currently forbidding gatherings of more than 10 people. In the pastor’s own words, “We have a constitutional right to congregate.

So what do you think? Should the 1st Amendment be followed or do governments need to start taking a harder line on religious gatherings flaunting coronavirus restrictions?
