I think especially when I write about gay history, queer history, or trans history, one of the things that absolutely pushes me is the understanding that it is modern bigotry that is the problem. Because these are histories that have existed for centuries. We may have a modern word for them, but they have been part of our sexual culture and people have lived those lives since human sexuality began.
