Man accidentally shoots, kills family member while cleaning gun in Phoenix

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A person is dead after a gun went off accidentally while being cleaned in a home in west Phoenix Saturday afternoon.

According to Phoenix police, a 22-year-old man was cleaning a gun at a home near 59th Avenue and Indian School Road when it accidentally went off, and a bullet struck a family member. Police say the person struck by the bullet died.

Police have not identified the person who was accidentally shot and killed, as the investigation is ongoing and in the early stages. Additional information was not available.
