Proverbs 14:15

Here’s one for the literalist fundamentalists…

KJV: The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going
NIV: The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps
NWT: The naive person believes every word, But the shrewd one ponders each step

Does this not suggest that fundamentalists are simple and naive? Does it not advocate rational skepticism?

Now, you might argue that it’s a bit of a stretch for me to apply this Biblical quotation to the Bible; to you, if that’s the case, I’ll ask a slightly different question: if there was a part of the Bible that recommended that you didn’t take the Bible as literally true in toto… would that make any difference to how you understood and interpreted it?
