‘Simply cheating’: Olympic medallist rips transgender track athlete

A photo of a transgender athlete competing at an NCAA track and field event earlier this year has sparked furor on social media, drawing the ire of a former Olympic medallist, no less.

Sharron Davies, an Olympic swimmer who won silver in the 400 medley for Great Britain in 1980, was among those to call out a transgender woman for competing at a women’s event in February.

CeCe Telfair, who previously competed as a male, took part in the Women’s Invitational 60m hurdles in Boston and qualified for the final. Telfair later was disqualified for a false start.

“Spot the male athlete in the women’s race! It’s simply Cheating,” Davies wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) in response to a picture taken at the event with the competitors in the starting blocks and Telfair towering over the other athletes.
