Elon Musk’s DOGE secures first big efficiency win by saving $190m of government money that was about to be wasted on child cancer research

The bipartisan spending bill was ended after Musk tweeted his displeasure at Republicans voting spend billions in a bill they had spend months carefully negotiating negotiating.

“Elon makes a good point,” explained Republican congressman Chuck Williams.

“Yes, I’ve spent a long time, many, many hours ensuring this bill covers expenditure on things that are important to my constituents – but at the same time Elon is the new cool plaything for Trump and so we have to do what he says.

“And do sick children really need that much money to investigate their illness and develop treatments? Especially at a time when we’re so desperate for tax cuts for rich people.

“So yes, I agreed to bend the knee and withdraw support for the spending bill.”

Meanwhile political correspondents have admitted that although depriving sick children of a potential lifeline is bad, Elon’s tactics suggest is growing softer in his old age.

As one told us, “Stopping their funding is bad, but I see it as an improvement on the Elon of a few years ago. It’s not that long since he would have called someone trying to help save the lives of vulnerable kids a ‘paedo guy’.”
